Greetings All, The revolution will not be right back After a message about a white tornado White lightning, or white people You will not have to worry about a dove in your bedroom The tiger in your tank, or the giant in your toilet bowl The revolution will not go better with Coke The revolution will not fight germs that may cause bad breath The revolution will put you in the driver's seat The revolution will not be televised Will not be televised Will not be televised Will not be televised The revolution will be no re-run, brothers The revolution will be live --The Revolution Will Not Be Televised by Gil Scott-Heron Gil Scott Heron’s message rang so deeply in my spirit because I know that change is not easy. It requires leaning into discomfort. It requires loss. It requires us to be open to people, perspectives, and paradigms that we never imagined before. The revolution will NOT BE TELEVISED it WILL BE LIVE. Bridge Boston CS is a community embarking upon a new chapter that will challenge us to deeply examine our personal and collective identities. Bias and racism is still part of a lived experience in our school. Merely remonstrating #BlackLivesMatter across public, political, and social media does not make you anti-racist. Living #BLM means confronting your own biases; eradicating behaviors, policies, systems, and structures that diminish the access and opportunities afforded to not only our Scholars but our Staff as well. Dr. Ibram Kendi says, “To be anti-racist is a radical choice in the face of history, requiring a radical reorientation of our consciousness.” Today, we are in unparalleled times. An abhorrent virus continues to plague this country--racism. Our people are suffocating underneath the knee of bigots who leverage bad laws that allow horrible acts to publicly strangle the life out of our people. Many of us are either angry beyond comprehension or paralyzed beyond belief because we have personally never been affronted with such atrocities--so close and personal. The call to courage is even more necessary than it has ever been before. The revolution will be live. Honestly, it is dreadful to consider that we will end the school year in such an impersonal way. We are challenged with creating joy and connection via a virtual platform with staff, students, and families who are emotionally exhausted/drained. Despite the drain on all of us between the perils of COVID and Black Death, it is actually amazing to have people show their faces and spirits on the screen these days. We have ten school days left and there is a great deal to do. We have celebrations to stage. We have goodbyes and hellos. We have socially distant smiles and hugs. We have reconciliation, forgiveness, and closure. We have an opportunity to bridge partnerships and foster hope. For those who are wondering what happens next… We disrupt, invest, join up. We make amends and extend our arms around each other. We make these last 10 days--the best we can. We extend care. We live for the small moments and small wins. We celebrate. We cry. We virtually hug. We finish what we started We find a way to collectively BREATHE. I wish you and yours well as we continue the #MARCHFORWARD Greetings All,
Confusion and Anger and Fear and Dispair are alive in our nation, today. Precious lives of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Tony McDade, and countless others have lost their lives to the brutality of those who are called to protect them. Many of you seek truth, justice, action, and peace. Our Scholars and Parents are looking to us for answers. We are looking to each other for them as well. This morning the Leadership Team poured out our hearts to one another in reaction to the events of this week. We too, are reeling and trying to figure out how to support each of you through this. As part of a brainstorm, we have curated some ideas and would appreciate your reaction and suggestions to what we have identified so far:
Black & Brown Leaders have often driven the fight against oppression in all forms in this country. June 1st signifies the launch of #PrideMonth in celebration of the lives of our LGBTQIA community members. Audre Lorde, civil rights activist, feminist, American thought leader, posits: “You do not have to be me in order for us to fight alongside each other. I do not have to be you to recognize that our wars are the same. What we must do is commit ourselves to some future that can include each other and to work toward that future with the particular strengths of our individual identities. And in order for us to do this, we must allow each other our differences at the same time as we recognize our sameness.” We collectively can grow stronger for #LoveIsTheBridge with each heart, mind, and spirit that chooses to actively and intentionally engage in our development and healing. RESOURCES:
Love Liberates. Love conquers fear, doubt, anxiety, and hate... Love enlivens spirits to dare greatly despite the darkness. Each of us was born in Love. Together, we are #OneBridge! Cheers, Craig Martin Executive Director Here are few words from our participants to best describe the experience:
“This didn't feel like a workshop, it was nice to sit back and listen to Mr. Martin. What an inspirational speaker that comes from real experiences.” “Rose and Craig you both were so warming and welcoming to listen to! I'd love to sit on more conversations with you!” “Craig and Rose were fabulous. It was great to have a safe space to have important discussions.” “Rose's voice is so soothing, and Craig's energy is so infectious." "If Rose is the refreshment of a rhythmic ocean wave to calm you, then Craig is the bright sun that's warming your soul." "I really appreciate your teamwork. I think it would be helpful in the future to ask for questions in advance to help streamline the Q+A forum. I wish my district had clones of you both!” |
